Review of Cutter's Way (1981) by Chad O — 20 Jul 2011
Very good drama/mystery about an oversexed drifter (Jeff Bridges) who sees a body being dumped on a rainy night and gets drawn into a murder mystery by his alcoholic and disabled Vietnam vet friend (John Heard, who is fantastic in the role).
Definitely one of those "they don't make 'em like they used to movies" which has a really good atmosphere and script driven by great lead performances. There are a ton of good lines and Heard is one of the better anti-heroes ever in cinema. He somehow manages to make you like him despite the fact that he's a racist, abusive, alcoholic (and those may be his good qualities) gent who both exploits and hates the injuries he sustained in the war and desperately wants to nail the person responsible for the murder as a way to get back at "the system" since the murderer in question is a very powerful authority figure.
Very good character study and drama with awesome acting, a really good script and a great musical score by Jack Nietzsche. Well worth seeking out.
