Review of Cutter's Way (1981) by Mike M — 09 Aug 2011
Ascribes to the murder-mystery the diffuse form of disillusionment that was in the air at its particular moment, going not for the full-throttle paranoia of, say, "The Parallax View", but for something almost intentionally frustrating, with characters who can't really get anywhere and have to be content with butting their heads against a series of walls.
.. You can see how a thriller this wilfully low-key might have slipped under the radar first time out: a drifter in every sense, it mostly keeps its significant plot action off-screen, choosing instead to drag its heels through some meaty, funny or otherwise diverting character business.
