Review of Crumb (1995) by Ricardo V — 22 Aug 2007
Regarded as one of the greatest/most interesting documentaries ever made, this was the first movie I rented when I got to college. sat in the back screening room and got to about 50 minutes into the film before I got extremely disturbed by the drawings and felt like this movie wasn't for me.
if u've read robert crumb's comics you know he draws some intensely sexual/psychotic stuff, after four years I came back to the film and got through it and it does prove to be one of the best documetaries ever made.
the interviews with crumb and his two brothers prove to be extremely disturbing, as one is completely controlled by tranquilizers and hadn't left his mother's house in over 20 (before sadly eventually committing suicide), and the other brother is a self-proclaimed molester.
it just gets weirder and weirder and uncomfortable to watch but it's fascinating stuff.
