Review of Crumb (1995) by Adam R — 08 Nov 2010
People whose moviegoing tastes are exclusively limited to Michael Bay or Adam Sandler movies, should probably steer clear of this uneasy film. Two hour documentary is an exploration into the mind of underground comic book artist Robert Crumb, who channels his sexual obsessions and personal views into the form of strange but appealing comic strips that either offend, appall, engage or interest it's readers.
Film discusses Crumb's odd personal life including slightly uncomfortable conversations with his family and interesting interviews with friends and colleagues. Documentary may or may not portray Crumb in the best light, but it's a seemingly honest portrait of a man who simply does what he wants as he withdraws into his craft, no matter how bizarre it might be, it's still something that he does, and people can't stop reading it.
