Review of Cross of Iron (1977) by A.t. S — 26 May 2009
Fairly harrowing mix of war film and Peckinpah film insanity. Like The Big Red One it has some brilliant and really unsettling scenes but doesn't really add up to more than the sum of its parts. Still the unique mix of subject/creator (american shooting film about germans fighting on the eastern front) and Peckinpah's great eye make it worth watching.
