Review of Crooklyn (1994) by Tom B — 16 Feb 2011
If you like kids this a good Spike movie for you. Not an ideal film in terms of story or particularly innovative in terms of look and feel, but rather a remembrance with a series of anecdotes woven around key moments from childhood growing up in Brooklyn in 70s.
Lots to relate to for someone from my generation. At times quite affecting, and performances are strong. Thematically it's very rich, ranging from role of men and women in family, children and parents, and effects of no-money on family life.
Lots to relate to for everyone in this day and age, I think. Kids dancing to Soul Train is hilarious scene. I remember it well.
