Review of Critters (1986) by Sean J — 31 Jul 2008
I remember LOVING this movie when I was a kid. Re-watching it now, I realize what a truly piece of 80's garbage it really was. But it's a GEM of a garbage flick.
They don't make movies like this anymore. All the cheesy, shitty monster movies are done on the SCI-FI channel, and they don't even come close to reaching this level of entertainment. CRITTERS strives to be what it is, a hopelessly ridiculous premise with a bunch of laughs, some voracious little monsters, and a laughable cast. Each character is insane, and behaves completely inappropriately given the circumstances. But therein lies the fun.
I miss the days when monsters were puppets and not CG-nightmares. The CRITTERS and GREMLINS series did more for me than KOMODO or PYTHON ever will. Watching this movie is a joyful return to the era of bad-80's-movies, and I have to say I loved every second of it.
