Review of Critters (1986) by Allan C — 03 Jun 2016
Enjoyably goofy low budget sci-fi comedy about a race of small furry alien creatures who escape their interplanetary imprisonment and crash land on earth. The toothsome furry critters proceed to wreak havoc on a small rural town who's inhabitants find themselves fending for their lives.
The townsfolk are caught in the crossfire between some space bounty hunters and the swarming critters. This film was one of many around this time trying to cash in on the popularity of "Gremlins" and I would say this is probably the best.
This film has no pretensions about itself, has some decent special effects and features a decent cast that includes Dee Wallace, M. Emmet Walsh, and Billy Zane. You even get a solid score from David Newman in what was his first filmscore.
Certainly not a classic film, but still a pretty entertaining one.
