Review of Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989) by Andrew E — 23 Sep 2009
Definitely in the top 10 of his works, Woody Allen's "Crimes and Misdemeanors" is one of his most thought-provoking films and original films. Using techniques involving nonlinear narrative that he adopts for later films, Allen has crafted a simple tale of infidelity and incorporates it with sociological and philosophical messages.
Martin Landau gives a quiet but terrific performance, turning a morally corrupt character into a performance we don't necessarily sympathize with, but understand. It's one of Allen's best.
