Beautiful cinematography. I like simple bright and dark shapes and colors a lot. Bergman's a bit like Whistler, maybe? It lets me abstract things more easily--humans = white blobs on red screens or green grass.

The ticking of clocks/ringing of church bells to mark the continuance of suffering/time in reality vs. the chiming of pretty bells as music for one who is indifferent, but smiles a lot, then long stretches of silence, then simple, pretty cello parts later on (not a complete sentence or thought, but they did it for me, anyway).

And did anyone else stop breathing with Agnes? It's waterboarding!
