Review of The Skeleton Twins (2014) by Bill S — 03 Jan 2016
Dull and lifeless. The movie squanders the message it's trying to convey consistently. It treats depression as something it's not by showing two brats consistently acting out and hurting everyone around them.
There is no redemption for the characters and they are awfully unlikable. The only saving grace is the decent performances by the leads. Luke Wilson is fun as Maggie's husband, but the movie treats him poorly and shows that the happy guy is out of place.
There are many isolated plot points that just keep piling up for shock value and it's infuriating. Overall a very misguided and pretentious film that doesn't create engrossing characters and ruins any sort of message it's trying to convey.
