Review of Creed (2015) by Gordon H — 10 Jun 2017
A New 'Rocky' for a New Generation!
Originally Written on Nov. 25, 2015 --.
Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. But there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), to chase his own dreams of becoming a champion.
I grew up loving the original 'Rocky' films, so when I heard that director Ryan Coogler was making this film about the son of the legendary Apollo Creed training with the Italian Stallion himself to become a boxing champion, I was super excited! Jordan shines as Adonis and the scenes between him and Stallone are magnificent. But don't take my word for it, as A.O. Scott of the New York Times writes, "Creed is a dandy piece of entertainment, soothingly old-fashioned and bracingly up-to-date.".
