Review of Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961) by Amy C — 19 Nov 2005
OK, I still have a bunch of movies to rate and have added some to the list to be rated since my last batch of posts. Again, the reviews will be very short.
Creature From the Haunted Sea was a strange little movie. Another gloriously bad "B" movie. The creature lives in water and still looks fuzzy(?) and is obviously fake, but I loved it anyway. The plot was not great and the acting even worse and what was the deal with the woman singing on the boat when the bad guys were about to board?
The Missing was an ok movie. I really like Tommy Lee Jones and watched it mostly because of him. The plot was interesting and some of the situations were kind of strange, but all in all, the movie was ok.
Dirty Dancing Havana Nights was pretty good. Not as good as the original Dirty Dancing, but the music was fantastic and the dancing was fun to watch. Patrick Swayze was in this one as a dance instructor. Thankfully, he wasn't the same character as in the first movie because that would have thrown continuity out the window since Havana Nights comes before Dirty Dancing timewise. I would watch it again.
Batman Begins was ok. I personally think Michael Keaton was the best Batman in the original movie. Christian Bale was ok, but not especially likeable. Some of the action sequences were good, but the acting not so much. I just felt kind of luek warm about the whole experience.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was pretty good. I was glad that some changes were made to the plot so that the story was different from that of Willy Wonka (a favorite movie from my childhood). Johnny Depp looked kinda creepy and I think if I was a parent, I'd think twice before letting my child go into his factory. Anyway, it was different enough that I didn't compare the two movies the whole time I watched. I think the one thing I did compare was the Oompa Loompas and their song. I liked the ones from the original movie better.
