Review of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) by Leena G — 16 Aug 2018
I've seen it twice it is fun, a first for the eyes and belly! Laughs all around and as an Indian Asian I see myself and my family easily represented. I teared up at so many points. Even if you've read the books you will still be happily surprised.
It is truly beautiful to see Asian stories being told through the lenses of Asians and not colonizers who get words, or dialects incorrect because it's all "Chinese" to them! I know that much of the criticism lies in not all Asians being represented but truthfully, shouldn't we be mad that we are laying all our hopes and dreams on the first major RomCom starring all Asians.
Why aren't all Rom Coms held to the same standard? The more we support this beautiful story of a woman who falls in love with a boy, who is flawed but doesn't need saving, the more we will see other movies with more representation, better representation going to the big screen! There will be more representation in the other books so Cheers to the Sequels!!!!!!
