Review of Country Strong (2010) by Francisca M — 01 Jul 2011
For some reason, I thought the movie was based on a true story. But it sort of is since the story has been seen before. I enjoyed watching this movie. It wasn't amazing because it wasn't going for the sensational feel with every scene.
The cast was good and I liked the simple story. I didn't even recognize Tim McGraw. He did a good job and I'm glad he wasn't singing. Gwyneth Paltrow has a decent voice and she did well. Garrett doesn't have the greatest voice but I loved it.
Sometimes it not about a great voice but the song and the presence. Also, the writer of the songs did a great job because I love "Give in to me" and the others. Leighton was fine and I don't mind her in this role.
She's cool. I have to admit that I read ahead to see what happens at the end and I didn't see it coming too much. I'm glad that it ended that way. It wasn't a story about triumph. However, I think they should've gone more into the story.
It was missing some development and there was too much innuendo with Chiles and James Canter. We need more with everyone else and how Kelly affected other things. I liked watching and wasn't bored but I wanted that extra step.
But I'm glad it wasn't sensational and tried to be so large with the music and such. Good movie.
