Review of Conviction (2010) by Ralph W — 27 Dec 2011
'Conviction' is a strong inspection of the U.S. justice system with a microscopic view of the case of a Massachusetts man wrongly convicted of murder and his sister's decades-long fight to free him.
The film is tough and gritty, but comes off as eerily accurate. While the true story makes for a great premise, award-worthy performances given by Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell are the most impressive aspects of 'Conviction' because the high stakes of the characters' situation makes for exceedingly emotional circumstances.
Where the film seems to suffer a little is in that it does not feel like a good, quick novel, but drags on more than it should. Regardless, Tony Goldwyn does a commendable job giving 'Conviction' solid legs to stand on, and the film will remain a hidden gem for audiences to stumble across.
