Review of Conviction (2010) by Justen N — 03 Jul 2012
Swank and Rockwell star as siblings in a true story about a sisterâ??s determined effort to prove her brotherâ??s innocence. The film had an air of familiarity and hinted at predictability, but wound up keeping you on edge until the end.
One of the filmâ??s biggest problems is that the brother is portrayed as an inconsiderate jerk that never grew up â?? a difficult character for you to root for, let alone empathize with his sister. What keeps you locked-in is the suspense that accompanies unsolved crimes.
It was eye-opening to see the differences between the evidence used to prosecute crimes 30 years ago versus today. The cast was not necessarily star-studded, but the acting was strong including another blue-collar supporting performance from Leo.
