Review of Conviction (2010) by Jay L — 26 Mar 2011
Astounding. Breathtaking. Pure 100% inspiration. The indredulous and towering true story of Betty Anne Waters and her wrongfully accused brother Kenney is one of intense power and utter emotion. Director Tony Goldwyn is guilty of crafting a dramatic masterpiece here that stunned me in quite a convincing manner. Conviction is an unforgettable, heart stopping, and gut wrenching story of the incredible power of family, love, hope, and the strength of the enduring human spirit. Such a strong film, a brilliantly executed piece of filmmaking that was snubbed of many major awards in which it deservingly should have won. Such a powerful film, easily one of the best films of 2010. Uplifting, inspirational, and the ultimate feel good film. One of the most amazing stories that I've ever had the pleasure to see. Such fantastic and awe-inspiring subject matter that it's truthfully incredibly difficult not to fall in love with this woman.
Betty Anne Waters (played brilliantly by Hillary Swank, easily another award worthy performance from her) was a woman on a mission after her brother Kenney (played by Sam Rockwell in a searingly brilliant and award worthy performance)was wrongfully convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. Waters devoted every aspect of her life trying to price her brother Kenny's innocence, she studied, went to law school, became an attorney, and finally represented her brother on a DNA based appeal. A quick summary of a masterful film filled with engaging storylines and convincing acting. Loved it, a true masterwork.
