Review of Contempt (1963) by Arif B — 12 Nov 2008
Jack Palance as Jerry Prokosch has one of the best lines I have ever heard in a film: "I like gods. I like them very much. I know exactly how they feel. Exactly.".
He knows how gods feel because his money has made him godlike: as soon as he takes out his checkbook, scripts are rewritten, parts are recast, scenes are reshot, and artistic integrity is compromised.
The film is extraordinarily well written and surprisingly funny. I recommend it for appreciators of cinema.
