Review of Contempt (1963) by Mary D — 01 Aug 2007
I think I'll have to watch this again. The locations and set design are fantastic. The cinematography is really impressive, obviously--one of the best examples of Technicolor that comes to mind. The repetitive score was sort of frustrating, but the story and the dialogue were good enough so that this hardly mattered.
Michel Piccoli is particularly impressive and the Fritz Lang hero-worship seems entirely well placed. Five stars because it's Godard in the sixties.
