Review of Contempt (1963) by Donovan D — 11 Oct 2007
Contempt is not unlike Vivre Sa Vie in that it is Godard at his most serious, but unlike the earlier film, Contempt does not feel as effortless as Vivre Sa Vie. While his comments about commercial filmmaking and exploitation are not without merit, with Contempt Godard's trying too hard and the results are a little flat and, well, boring.
