Review of Contempt (1963) by Ébel C — 23 Feb 2010
I thought it was contrived and preachy. The dialogue was entirely unbelievable and inhuman, from the passive dialogue between the love interest leads to Fritz Lang's perfectly proper and articulate prose juxtaposed with the American producer's evil garble that is insulting and insultingly subjective and biased. The cinematography was gorgeous at times, but even that was hindered by a thirty minute scene of nothingness with a nothingness background inside the lovers' flat.
Up there with Weekend for my least favorite Godard film.
