Review of Confessions of a Superhero (2007) by Alyssa N — 28 Mar 2010
This fascinating documentary gives us a look into a unique career and the quirky individuals who inhabit it. It's very entertaining, and I found myself smiling quite a bit in the beginning, but by the end it's almost painful to watch as the reality of their job and situation sets in.
Skillful editing reveals the stories and personalities of the "characters" piece by piece until it's clear that everyone is more complex than they first appear, Batman does indeed have a dark side, and Superman is far more eccentric than you could have imagined.
The other two aren't as developed, and I wish we could have gotten to know them better as they're the easiest to relate to, if less interesting. Still, this documentary presents its offbeat subject matter in a way that is enjoyable, honest, and moving, and it's well worth watching.
