Review of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) by Alyssa N — 10 Oct 2010
This isn't any worse than the majority of teen movies that have been released in the past decade, but it annoys me more because it clearly thinks it's better. Maybe if it had embraced the "mindless teen comedy" genre instead of being so pretentious, it could have at least earned some laughs.
As it stands, the situations this movie tries to present as funny (i.e. a teenage girl getting blackout drunk and making her friends chase her around the city) are just sad and pathetic. And nothing about the drama or romance is believable for a second -- even the most irrational people do not act these ways in real life, and you don't fall in love with someone in a matter of hours, sorry.
Also, this is one of those movies about teenagers who apparently don't have parents and get to run around independently doing whatever they want. As if I wasn't suspending my disbelief enough already.
