Review of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) by Doug B — 27 Jul 2009
A fairly unremarkable directing attempt from Clooney is ultimately the result of butchering Charlie Kaufman's script. Despite the unorthodox plot it is the most 'standardised' drama Kaufman has written, and ironically the weirdest Kaufman script I've ever seen put to screen, in part due to the subject matter.
The characters are barely watchable, let alone likable, the only real draw to the film is Rockwells exuberant performance as Barris, otherwise there's very little to relate to, as well as the fact that Chuck Barris' life depicted is a complete lie, (His involvement in the film was intrinsic in solidifying this falsity) A big disappointment to what could have been a very remarkable film.
