Review of Concussion (2013) by Amilcar A — 12 Feb 2014
Excellent! Bravo to the cast and crew of Concussion- written and directed by Stacie Passon (I believe this is the first film I see from her) and produced by Rose Troche. The story is about a wealthy 42 year old artist named Abby (Robin Weigert) married and raising two kids with her partner who is an attorney at Goldman Sachs.
Unfortunately her partner is a workaholic and hardly ever has time for Abby so Abby buys a Manhattan loft and during her free time hooks up with a prostitute. Realizing how she enjoyed pleasing the prostitute she ventures into the world of an escort with help from her close male friend and contractor Justin (J.
Tchaikovsky). I wholeheartedly agree with most of the critics review below and especially from this one by Michael Sragow: "[Weigert] and Passon team up to create an indelible portrait of a woman who may always be a work in progress.
" It is an interesting, smart, enjoyable film that shows our vulnerabilities and how we fill the empty spaces in our lives. Highly recommended!
