Review of Concussion (2013) by Lyn — 06 Mar 2014
It would be interesting to throw this film into the whole gay marriage discussion, since it demonstrates (among other things) that gay unions can be just as frustrating and boring as traditional marriage! Robin Weigert, a very good character actress, has a tough job here.
Her lesbian character searches urgently for alternatives that will add excitement/fulfillment while not also costing her the nice life she shares with her spouse and kids. Weigert looks scarily thin and unhealthy – I guess because her character is depressed? – but puts endless energy into her quest.
The problem is that early on, you start to worry about whether it’s leading anywhere. Featuring some familiar faces from shows including “The West Wing,” “Mad Men” and “The Walking Dead,” the movie is like a certain kind of short story.
It gives you a brief, slice-of-life look at characters you are interested in, but probably won’t remember very long.
