Review of Conan the Barbarian (1982) by Andrew K — 11 Nov 2012
Conan is in fact a very good film - not a run-of-the-mill, 80s swords-and-sandals hamfest, but a genuinely strong piece of work. It isn't a fantasy story per se - more of a historical epic set in a fictional prehistoric setting (which is apparently the intention), no-one involved in this film takes the tongue-in-cheek approach for a change and it's all the more solid for that.
Even Arnold is good (the "lamentation of their women" line is a masterpiece among many...)!
