Anne Hathaway stars as an unemployed media journalist who's heroic alcohol intake leads to boyfriend Dan Stevens booting her out of his NYC apartment. Unemployed and homeless, she moves back to her hometown to chill out, and hooks up with childhood friend Jason Sudeikis, who gives her a job at the bar he owns, which exacerbates her alcohol issues.

Oh yes ... and a giant monster keeps showing up and causing havoc in Seoul and it seems to be connected to Hathaway's drinking binges. To say more would be to give away too much (which the trailer definitely does).

This is a miraculously strange little film. It's largely a character drama where Hathaway learns to straighten herself out and get away from controlling men, but it deftly weaves in kaiju as a metaphor for her struggles.

I love that it pretty much asks you to accept this bizarre supernatural premise without overly explaining how it's possible.
