Review of Colma: The Musical (2006) by Terry M — 01 Jan 2009
Probably the most independent film i've ever seen (besides maybe "War Eagle, Arkansas"), and there are flaws in that realm (awkward timing, slow production, fake-looking "beat ups", and more), and none of the singing is spot-on.
However, this is obviously written and directed with great heart, the songs are rather catchy (if unprofessional sounding), and the story is one a high school senior like myself can and does relate to.
H.P. Mendoza has written something here that would undoubtedly work better on stage, but he gives a great performance and an absolute STAR is found within L.A. Renigen (Maribel) who seems all too ready for any acting job there could be---Broadway, film, book readings, ANYTHING.
She's beautiful, an amazing actress, and has a huge career ahead of her.
