Review of Arrival (2016) by Terry M — 19 Oct 2018
I don't know why I waited so long to watch Denis Villeneuve's film THE ARRIVAL. I have been a big fan of Villeneuve's films since PRISONERS which shook me up, deeply, for over a week..it hit so many personal buttons. Such a brutal film and yet so beautifully made. I could not get that film out of my mind for months and I don't know if I can ever watch PRISONERS again. That said... I don't know what I'm feeling after watching THE ARRIVAL. THE ARRIVAL has shaken me to tears and I don't know why.. maybe the answer will come to me in a few days... maybe it never will... maybe someone on Facebook can help explain what I'm feeling.
However, I am a huge fan of Mr. Villeneuve's work. For me, He so carefully crafts the tone of a film that you have no choice but to be hugely affected by it whether that reaction is positive or negative and to me that is what great art is all about. I'm surprised that I still have not seen his sequel to the original Blade Runner. I think I'm a little afraid to see it.. his films make me feel and think so much that I find them a bit overwhelming, but I have a great admiration for his talent!
