Review of Collateral (2004) by Jacob A — 09 Nov 2010
If Heat was Michael Mann's way of showing us that the relationships between cops and criminals aren't that different at all, then I guess you could say Collateral was his way of showing us the relationships between the weak and the strong. But Heat was a close to 3 hours of him showing us his thesis. Collateral is a 2 hours, and doesn't have the same strong themes which makes it more of a thriller than him proving us what he thinks which it seems he strives for sometimes. But it damn well has his awesome style and ability to maintain tension between two characters for a hole film, just as he did in Heat. Mann's still got it, you better believe it.
4 Stars.
