Review of Cold Souls (2009) by J L — 05 Jul 2010
A great idea wasted is the distinct impression I get from my first viewing of this film. A better writer may have made a great deal of difference and explored the idea so much more, thus, and more importantly made it fun to watch.
At it's core is a great initial concept "soul storage and swapping" The idea is completely out there, hiliarious and original but this film loses any potential by playing it straight or flat.
For a comedy it's just not funny and for a drama it's not particularly engaging. Having said that, Paul Giamatti is always worth watching, I just wish he had better material to play off. I may grow to like this on repeated viewings but for now I'm quite disappointed.
