Review of C.O.G. (2013) by Geoff C — 20 Sep 2013
The joy of reading a David Sedaris book is that the compilation off stories creates a full picture of who he is. C.O.G. fell short in this respect--not really presenting the main character in a way that let you know what was going on in his head. As a result, it was difficult to connect with him; to empathize and understand his perspective on the world into which he had thrown himself and that which he left behind.
I enjoyed this movie, mostly because I filled in the gaps with my own perception of the character based on Sedaris' writings, but I'm not sure someone unfamiliar with his work would get it.
I truly hope they try again with more of Sedaris' stories! I've always seen him as a Woody Allen type, and it think the right screenwriter could bring his stories to the screen in a more successful way.
