Made with outstanding and far-reaching scope. This is how historical epics should be presented. It is, like Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo, an uncompromising and in-depth portrayal of humans' lust for power.
An over the top performance by Kinski but you would expect no less. Certainly the film would be less without him.
