Review of Club Dread (2004) by Kyle V — 05 Aug 2009
Sophomoric would be a good way to describe this movie but Super Troopers was Broken Lizard's second movie. Puddle Cruiser was their first. Regardless of where people place this movie, it's like Death Proof in that it suddenly turns into the the type of movie it's supposed to be making fun of.
Sadly, the Broken Lizard troupe with the exception of Kevin Heffernan, seem like supporting actors, rather than part of an ensemble movie which was the case with Super Troopers and Beerfest. As for Bill Paxton's role, it would have been funny as a five minute skit, but doesn't work.
Brittany Daniel does a good job considering her limitations and Steve Lemme has an interesting character but after hearing him say "Peen-a-loop" over and over, the gag looses it's effect.
For a movie that is a spoof of slashers, I laughed maybe a couple of types. It's not Scary Movie, because Broken Lizard's wants to stick to true slasher form and that's their mistake.
