Review of Club Dread (2004) by Aidan K — 06 Aug 2014
This is not Super Troopers funny, which was comedy gold, and the director and actors knew exactly how to act at the perfect time, and those same lead actors (with the exception of Erik Stolhanske) and director return with something not awful but not terrifically funny.
This movie includes even darker jokes than Super Troopers and is more violent and less funny than it. This movie also piles onto gross-but-not-funny type jokes. For example, there is a scary story where a guy talks about a guy who went into the woods and had his penis chopped off, and he's running around the woods looking for a new one.
The movie's throw-it-all-at-the-wall-and-see-if-it-sticks way of laughs results in scene like a hot young woman who tells a dude that she went to Oral Roberts University, and the other guy talks about Anal Johnson University.
The movie certainly is funny at times. There were a few parts that made me laugh. Bottom line -- this movie is as weird as it gets. It aims for being funny as Scary Movie, but it never quite gets there.
