Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Noel F — 17 Sep 2012
Great premiss. After that, how best can I put it . . . horrendous without any horror in it. The film achieves the sought after desired effect of a hand held camera but to such an extreme that one feels dizzy.
The film's dialog consists of screaming, yelling, shouting, howling, screeching, wailing, wimpering and crying. Any remaining dialog is mundane. Though the action is fast paced the film takes forever to conclude.
There are numerous laughs but I'm reasonably certain the director (Matt Reeves) didn't intentionally mean them. Any caparisons to the Blair Witch Project should be avoided except to say it isn't anywhere near as suspenseful and terrifying as Blair Witch.
