Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Ravi P — 26 Apr 2013
I usually hate the found footage genre, why, well simple I hate the shakiness produced; it became uncreative, unoriginal, and boring real fast; but most importantly makes it harder for me to push away my sense of disbelief and reality.
However, in Cloverfields case it actually works. Cloverfield is a highly creative film of disaster and the camera technique here actually worked. The story is mysterious and suspenseful, the characters are great and their writing is very good.
Reeves, Abrams, and Goddard do a great job here and create a great film of many elements, surprises, edge of your seat moments, and story telling. Cloverfield isn't perfect by any means but still a great film in itself.
