Review of Cloverfield (2008) by Dylan M — 11 Nov 2015

Cloverfield was a good movie. It's very different but a s mart idea. Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams introduce a type of monster movie we haven't quite seen before. Cloverfield is a suspense and action joyride.

The city is under attack by villainous monsters and our 4 main characters are evidently trying to escape the scene. Reeves does a superb job of pacing out the plot points. We introduce the characters in a going away party and see some character traits and issues and right away, we get into the nitty gritty of the movie.

Its a simple formula but it works so well in Cloverfield. The characters are likable and fun. The chemistry between Rob and Beth plays out well towards the end of the film. The script in this movie is obviously terrible and the acting plus the dialogue doesn't help.

But with Cloverfield I look at the style of the movie, the different perspective, and tension given through out. Overall, I enjoyed what Cloverfield had to offer. A lot of suspenseful scenes and good action.

Cloverfield is a good movie to watch when you have 84 minutes to spare.
