Review of Clerks II (2006) by Seth Y — 23 Feb 2013
1994's "Clerks" is a classic film and one of my all-time favorites. There was a special feel to that movie which makes it unlike anything else. Kevin Smith's 2006 follow-up to his smash hit is enjoyable, but can only be considered decent and ultimately unnecessary.
Years after the first film, Dante and Randall are still working the same jobs. When the Quick Stop burns down however, the two find work at Mooby's, the local fast-food joint. Unlike the first one, "Clerks II" is an actual Hollywood movie, shot in full-color with the production that wasn't seen in the original installment. Unfortunately, this eliminates the feel that makes "Clerks" so memorable. There are certainly some enjoyable moments in this movie however. Some sequences are absolutely hilarious, but the film also throws in some dramatic elements, which I don't think work too well.
Fans of the original film should definitely watch "Clerks II," even if it's just for the nostalgic factor of seeing these memorable characters back on screen together. This is a fun, decent movie, but don't expect anything close to the greatness that is known as "Clerks." 3 stars.
