Review of City of the Living Dead (1980) by Allan C — 22 Apr 2016
I'm not much of a fan of director Lucio Fulci, but this film is the first of his unofficial Gates of Hell trilogy, which was followed by what I consider Fulci's two only decent films, "The Beyond" and "The House by the Cemetery.
" While the title may lead you to believe this is a zombie film, it's not really. The story is more about a group of people trying to close the gates of hell after they've been opened, which brings the dead back to life.
So there are zombies, but it's not really a zombie survival film along the lines of a Romero film or even Fulci's nearly watchable "Zombi 2." Average Fulci picture has his usual buckets of gore, but really offers nothing special and there are much better Italian horror alternative with similar stories and theme you could watch instead (i.
E. "The Church," "Inferno," "Demons 1 or 2").
