Yes, I think 'City of God' is a better film, but I think this film definitely stands on its own and is better (in terms of production, storyline and having a profound affect on world culture awareness) than 99% of films (especially hollywood) being released today.
Everyone should see films produced outside the US to better understand the world we live in instead of the romantic garbage that US films thow at us. I would suggest seeing this film first, then see City of God and try not to compare the two, but take each one for its own merit.
