Wow. This is one of the most epic and powerful film experiences I've ever had. Here's a film that does something that only a few others have done successfully in the past: it explores the obscenity and grotesqueness of war, but in a way that isn't gratuitous or without purpose.
Chuan Lu has given us a firm understanding on not only the historical events, but human cruelty as well. Absolutely flawless!
