Review of City of God (2002) by Marco C — 21 Jan 2012
This truly is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen. What a true and gritty look at the the slums of Rio de Janiero. The ensemble of acting performances are top notch yet almost none of these actors had professional work.
I have never seen a movie that made me care about so many characters and take interest to the story of each individual. This is somewhat similar to other hyperlink cinema such as Crash or Babel yet completely different.
We watch a boy grow into a man while watching the City of God turn into a drug-infested war zone. We learn about friendship and love, but at the same time, we watch how greed, jealousy, and revenge can drive those seeking power.
This is not your average American gangster movie. This is a whole new ballgame.
