Review of City of God (2002) by Andrew S — 07 Jul 2017
"A shocking and disturbing, but always compelling look at life in the slums of Rio de Janiero." - RT.
One of the last scenes in the picture involving the corrupt police and the ultra-violent, sociopathic drug dealer Lil Ze played brilliantly by Leandro Firmino. When those two come together the result left me with a hammerblow feeling. I greatly dig the frenetic, aggressive camera work and montage film editing reminescent to Oliver Stone or Tony Scott. "City Of God" is the Brazilian Goodfellas and rightly so. This is a great film.
