Review of City of God (2002) by Chadd C — 19 Jun 2014
The "Pulp Fiction" of the 21st century.
When coming across the "Best 100" on IMDb, I saw where the movie, "City of God" which came to a complete surprise, mostly because I never heard of it before. As soon as I saw that, I immediately added it to my Netflix queue. During a busy weekend, I saw where this movie came through the mail and I took the time to try to enjoy the movie in my downtime. Wow... It made my weekend a lot better!
What an amazing flow of moving from one scene into the next. Never did I get bored or steer away from the screen. A powerful narrative that told the story so well, which made me realize the story felt so real. When the ending showed that the movie was based on a real story, I got goosebumps. Although the characters were a little unbalanced, because new characters were introduced so fast, but within a few minutes, I was back on track on who the characters were.
The movie was Goodfellas, The Place Beyond the Pines, and Pulp Fiction wrapped into what is considered one of the most powerful movies ever made.
A+.
