City of God has way too many characters and is more focused on proving a point than telling a story, its biggest sin is trying way too hard to recreate Tarantino's style that itself was lifted from 70s exploitation films, which feels totally inappropriate for this type of story.
But, eh, it's still provoking enough that apparently everybody and their mother loved it, and I wasn't exactly hating myself during the whole thing.
