Review of Citizen X (1995) by Sarah G — 09 Oct 2007
Simply mesmerizing. I have no doubt that had this been a theatrical release it would have been a serious best picture contender. Stephen Rea's performance is outstanding. Rea plays a forensic analyst forced to turn detective when assigned to catch a killer praying on children.
He must also fight a political battle just to get the minimum amount of resources he needs to catch this killer from a government that officially denies the possibility that such a monster could exist in Soviet Russia.
("Serial killing is a decadent Western phenomenon"). The fact that it is based on an actual case makes it all the more astounding. Brilliant.
