Review of Citizen Soldier (2016) by Rika R — 27 Sep 2016
A true story following the lives of ordinary citizens turned war heroes, Citizen Soldier captivates battle overseas unlike any other film I have ever seen. David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud document military life in such a powerful and immersive experience, with helmet-cam footage taken by the soldiers themselves as they fight on the front-lines.
It was astonishing to be able to see what our soldier's face day in and day out, from the extreme weather conditions and rocky terrain, to just waiting for enemy fire. It was always startling as a viewer to hear gunfire and bullets flying, but it was inspiring to see how calmly and courageously they fought to protect each other.
This footage is intercut with emotional personal accounts from our soldiers recounting war stories, talking about their home life and what they are giving up to protect our country, and above all their appreciation for the brother standing next to them in the battlefield.
Their camaraderie, and the love and respect they share for each other is remarkable. A modern-day Band of Brothers, this film invites us to takes steps into our soldier's shoes, experiencing their courage and bravery.
